Why We Exist

Christian leaders and families are under tremendous pressure like never before.  Among all professions, it has been determined that the position of a Minister is among the most stressful and demanding jobs today.  It is a profession, unlike others that not only affects and puts demands on the minister, but his wife and family as well.  Statistics show that among those in the ministry

  •         50% have considered leaving in the past three months

  •     50% of those who go into full time ministry will drop out within 5 years

  •      85,000 pastors feel burned out, discouraged, and demoralized

  •     Each month an estimated 1500 pastors leave the ministry due to burnout, marital difficulty and discouragement

  •     94% feel pressure to have the “perfect” family

  •     90% work 50 to 75 hours per week

  •     80% feel the ministry negatively affects their family

Not only ministry leaders, but also families and marriages are under attack as never before in our history.  Families are breaking apart at an alarming rate.  On average, couples spend less than 10 minutes each day in meaningful conversation.  Divorce among Christians is as high in the church as secular.  One in two marriages in America will end in divorce this year.

Youth and children are struggling to find their place and value in this world.  Surveys among the youth shows that 30% get “high” at least once a week.  Peer pressure on young people to use tobacco, alcohol and drugs is overriding traditional family values.  Sex is displayed everywhere and something that is considered “part of growing up”, even among children as young as 12 years old.

It is the heartfelt desire of those involved with Psalm 121 Ministries to be able to reach out to pastors, church leaders  and families who are struggling and need time to be quiet and listen to what God is saying to them about their life, their choices and their commitments.  Often, if a person can step away from their normal daily activities and environment for a short time, they can be still and listen to God and refocus on what is really important.  They can rest their minds, body and spirit and be better able to make rational decisions.  We do this by providing a place for them to go away to, without the burden of cost, where they are free from distractions and pressures.

If one ministry, one marriage, one family, one teenager, or one child can be helped and encouraged, it will all be worth it!
